James Jim Ripberger

July 22, 1953 — October 24, 2020

James “Jim” Carl Ripberger, 67, of Portland, passed away on October 24, 2020 at his residence. He was born on July 22, 1953 in Anderson, son of William J. and Barbara N. (Gilligan) Ripberger where he grew up in the neighborhood known as the “Acre” Pulaski Park. He was a graduate of Madison Heights High School. Jim had owned and operated Scratch & Dent Auto Body in Anderson for many years. He was a former member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. He loved sports, especially basketball where his favorite team was IU. He enjoyed bowling, having bowled several 300 perfect games, playing golf, restoring cars and playing softball in his younger years. He was an avid story teller to all that knew him. He is survived by his daughters, Angie (Brady) Graham of Anderson, Aimee (Dustin) Osborne of Anderson; grandchildren, Kailyn Graham, Brevan Graham, Claire Osborne, Cal Osborne, Cam Osborne; sisters, Brenda Allman, Kathy (Bob) Zell, both of Anderson; several nieces and nephews; special lifelong friends, Chuck and Linda Davis, Chuck Haney, Mike McClain, Sam Spoo and many other special friends, and his loving cat, Gizmo. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, William J. and Barbara N. (Gilligan) Ripberger, and a brother, William L. Ripberger. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 14th from 4 – 7:00 pm at the Chesterfield American Legion. Masks will be required with social distancing and hand Sanitizer in practice. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Madison County Humane Society.
