Pendleton – James D. “JD” Smith, 67, of Pendleton, lost his battle to cancer, Saturday, August 12, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital Anderson, surrounded by his loving family JD was born August 17, 1949 to Sam and Grace Smith in Birchwood, TN. He went to high school in Birchwood, TN before joining the Army and serving our country in Vietnam. On May 18, 1996, he married the love of his life, Sheila. JD worked for GTE/Verizon from 1972 until he retired in 2007. JD was a devoted Christian and loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing golf and loved wintering in Florida with all of his Florida friends. JD loved life, never met a stranger, and everyone loved JD! He is survived by his wife Sheila Smith; children, Marcy (Mike) Ban, Shane (Kelli) Isaacs, Darren (Jennifer) Isaacs, Michelle Smith, Sherry Smith and Dennis (Molly) Smith; grandchildren, Justin and Nathan Ban, Jaycey Wood and Kerrigan Isaacs, Megan and Connor Isaacs, Shelby Gilpatrick and Darielle Fernandez, Mikaela Smith, Olivia and Sophie Smith. JD was preceded in death by his parents, brother and three sisters. Services celebrating JD’s life will be on Wednesday at 1:00 pm at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, IN 46013 with Pastor Claude Creel officiating. Burial will be at Grove Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
