James Leo Garland, 85, of Carthage, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at his residence in Carthage, Indiana following a extended illness.
He was born on October 21, 1939, in Tracy, MN. to Patrick and Lucille (Frechette) Garland. James graduated from high school in MN and then attended Central Texas Collage.
James retired after serving 24 years in the United States Army. He then went to college at Central Texas and received a degree in Accounting. He then opened his own business; Garland Lawnmower and Repair Shop.
James enjoyed fishing, repairing cars for his family. Lawn mower repair and small engines were his love. He was a member of the VFW and St. Mary's church in MN.
James is survived by his wife Erika Garland; five children, Michael Garland, Christine & Scott McLendon, Sylvia & Don Nicholson, Patrick & Valerie Garland, and Amy & Carl Hunt; Brother Robert Garland; sisters, Charlotte Bendickson, Rose Pederson and Mary Bean. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Lucille Garland; and his first wife, Christine Garland.
A funeral service will be held at a later date in Killeen, TX at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
