James Franklin Roberts

James Franklin "Jim" Roberts, former Lapel resident, 72, Pendleton, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013. He was born on November 14, 1940, in Zanesville, Ohio to Charles and Esther (Simms) Roberts. He graduated from Hopewell High School in 1958 and served in the U. S. Air Force. Jim retired in 2006 as a transportation manager from O-I Brockway Glass in Lapel after 34 years of employment. He loved the outdoors and liked to fish, hunt deer, and golf. He enjoyed looking for valuables with his metal detector. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wilma J. (Cooper) Roberts; three daughters, Lorie Roberts and Terrie (husband, Doug) Huntzinger both of Lapel, and Mindy (husband, Jason) Pigg of Lafayette; six grandchildren, Brandi, Bryce, Danielle, Jimmy, Jacob, and Katie; three great-grandchildren, Amiah, Layton, and Paisley; and a special friend, Frank Grogg. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Brandon Carder; and a sister, Shirley Roberts. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Neal Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association.
