James E. DeShong, 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, Man of God passed away January 30, 2021 at his home.Jim lived his whole life in Pendleton, Indiana. He graduated from Pendleton H.S. in 1949. After one year at Purdue, he returned home to begin a dairy farm. Jim married to the love of his life Gwen McNutt in 1952. They ran the farm together until 1971. In 1977, Jim started DeShong Plumbing, which he ran successfully until he retired in 2011. Jim’s wife and family were his treasure. His example as a Christian was a treasure to all who knew him. He served as an elder at the Pendleton Christian Church.Jim is survived by his wife of 68 years, daughters, Susan (Jaye) Jeffries and Amy (Tracy) Brauchla; sons: David (Cinda)DeShong, Morris (Marcy) DeShong and Matthew (Judy) DeShong; grandchildren: Brad (Dee) Blackwell, Katie (Craig) Conyer, Annie (Mike) Greene, Jon (Nicole) Jeffries, James (Joni) Jeffries, Becky (Randy) Wilson, Craig (Erika) DeShong, Brian (Jessica) DeShong, Scott (Janell) DeShong, Karen (Brandon) Shreves, Beth (Jonathan) Carey, Lucas (Natalie) DeShong, Nanci (Adam) Custer, Samantha (Brian) Fulciniti, Clint (Kelly) Brauchla and Kim (Craig) Schurr; great grandchildren: Noah and Sam Blackwell, Gabe Conyer, Lexi and Sabrina Mitchell, Ishmael and Willow Jeffries, Elli and Graye Jeffries, Jordan (Kim), Jessica and Jack Hudson, Austin and Peyton DeShong, Claire Lyza, Hazel, & June Deshong, Kenzie (Arrik) Lee, Adell DeShong, Cole, Nova and Cooper Shreves, Carter and Lucy Carey, Lincoln and Mila DeShong, Emmie Custer, Kiley and Parker Brauchla, Trace and Jett Burkhardt; great-great granddaughter, Nora Hudson.; beloved dog, Rocky. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Gladys DeShong, brother, Robert DeShong and daughter-in-law, Rebekah DeShong.Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday February 3, 2021 at Pendleton Christian Church, 1170 South Pendleton Avenue Pendleton. Private burial will take place in Grove Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM Tuesday at the church. Attendees are asked to wear masks or facial covering and observe social distancing.
