Mr. James David Zickefoose

January 26, 1960 — February 2, 2022

James David Zickefoose, 62, passed away February 2, 2022. Known by several names including, “JD” and “Foose”, beloved son and wildcard in the deck of life, David left us too soon as the result of an auto accident. Born in Anderson, he attended Seventh Street Elementary, Central & Eastside Junior Highs, and graduated from Highland High School. David worked for Phillips Iron & Coal and later Newco Recycling. Active member of Redeemer Baptist Church, he sang in the choir, rarely missed Joy Fellowship on Tuesdays, and always offered prayers with feeling and belief. David had the biggest heart. Primary helper for his mother and mother-in-law, he made daily visits to assist them with meals, yardwork, housecleaning, groceries, and keeping cars on the road. David enjoyed watching football and basketball with his mom and “Momma Jean”. He also loved shooting pool, playing cards, and waiting for drawing results with buddies at the Moose & VMC. As has been said, David would give you the shirt off his back, although in summer he preferred not to wear one, living in his cutoff jeans, and enjoying the pool. He loved live music and special favorites included, The Oak Ridge Boys and Carl Erskine’s Little Bit Country. He was famous for the homemade deviled eggs he brought to every celebration; courtesy of the chickens raised in his backyard coop. David had a special sense of wonder about nature and would phone his mom to make sure she saw the full moon, a beautiful sunset, or the magnificence of a lightning show in the night sky. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda (Humphries) Zickefoose; stepfather, “Pops” Larry Caplinger; and a father-in-law, Norman Humphries. He is survived by mother, Carol Caplinger; mother-in-law, “Momma Jean” Humphries; sister, Teresa (husband, Paul) Dennis; stepbrothers, Larry & Ralph Caplinger; nephews, Corey Holden & Brandon Caplinger; nieces, Leah (husband, Michael) Cooper, Jennifer, (husband, Carlo) Roam, Kelsey (husband, Tony) Huston; one great nephew; six great nieces; dear aunts, uncles, and cousins. Among friends too numerous to count, are his best friend, Brent Land; and stand out friends, Elaine & Ruddy. There will never be another like David. His was an original, colorful character. Heartbroken to have lost him, we take comfort knowing that he is reunited with Linda, his Pops, and Daddy Norm. David’s back isn’t “talking” to him anymore. He is at peace, and we know that we will all be together again. God Shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain. -Rev. 21:4. Services will be at 1 pm Monday, February 14, at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory. Burial will be at East Maplewood Cemetery.
