James Andrew Cole, 80, Mechanicsburg, went to his glorious heavenly reward Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at his home following a brief illness.
He was born on October 31, 1930, in Cadiz, Indiana to Luther and Rosa (Wisehart) Cole.
He graduated from Cadiz High School in 1949.
Jim retired in 1993 from the former Delco Remy division of General Motors in Anderson after 28 years of employment.
He was a founding member of Daybreak Community Church, Lapel for 12 years; a founding member and music leader for the New Life Wesleyan Church in Pendleton for 27 years; he sang in The Cole's Quartet for several years. Jim enjoyed being around the water, skiing, fishing and boating; he belonged to the Christian Campers Fellowship; and also loved many sports including, golf, basketball, baseball, track, and shuffleboard. In the spring he enjoyed hunting mushrooms and was very secretive about his favorite spots. Jim also loved gardening and picking berries.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eleanor A. (Scott) Cole; five children, David (wife, Carla) Cole of Pendleton, Richard (wife, Debbie) Cole of Lapel, Rosie (husband, David) Walls of Lapel, Nancy (husband, Edwin) Blackwood of Australia, and Robert (wife, Laura) Cole of Urbana; twenty grandchildren, Brandi, Mandi, Valerie, Joanna, Rebekah, Andy, Tony, Paul, Danielle, Joshua, Micah, Allen, Zachary, Charity, Maria, Tamara, Benjamin, Emily, Paige, and Hannah; twenty-three great-grandchildren; five brothers and sisters, Marcella (husband, Howard) Parker of Warren, Patty Dickerson of Middletown, Gerald (wife, Pam) Cole of Middletown, Jack (wife, June) Cole of Cadiz, and Larry (wife, Sheila) Cole of Cadiz; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Caleb Cole; and brothers and sisters, Crystal Zollman, Evelyn Lamaster, Bill Cole, and George Cole.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev.s Richard and Andrew Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday, April 18, 2011, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Daybreak Community Church, P. O. Box 746, Lapel, Indiana 46051-0746.
