Jack Ivan Davis, 75, of Noblesville, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at his residence following a sudden illness.
He was born on July 8, 1948, in Anderson to John W. Davis and Worthy K. (Dauber) Hall. He spent some of his childhood in Anderson, then moved to Michigan where he was surrounded by his mother's side of the family. He returned to Lapel and graduated from Lapel High School with Debby, who would later become his wife. After high school, he studied Philosophy at IUPUI.
He has held many jobs in his life including Pizza Hut manager, painter, mortgage broker, and car salesperson. But Jack found his true calling in his late 40s when he attended the Alexandria School of Scientific Therapeutics and became a massage therapist. He created Affective Touch Massage Therapy and spent the remainder of his career helping people in Noblesville and surrounding areas with everything from sports injuries to sore backs to prenatal massage care. Anyone who's ever had a massage from Jack knows of the healing power in his giant hands. He retired from massage in 2017 when health issues no longer allowed him to continue.
He was a member of Fall Creek Friends Meeting in Pendleton and spent decades of his life working with the Quakers on causes he believed in, from nuclear disarmament to social justice issues. In the final months and weeks of his life, much of his thoughts were of Fall Creek and figuring out how to attend meeting more often given his mobility issues.
Jack was an avid mushroom hunter, spending many spring days roaming the woods in search of those elusive morels. Then, once it got a little warmer and the grass started to grow, he'd spend weekend after weekend happily mowing the yard on his beloved John Deere tractor. Every year, he looked forward to the Indy 500 and went to many races with his best friend, Rick Prout. He was also a faithful fan of the Indianapolis Colts and could often be found sitting in his recliner wearing his now-faded Colts hat and watching football games, up through his final days.
Jack was outgoing and loved to be the center of attention, making jokes with that "Davis sense of humor." He spent many evenings with friends at Lutz's Steakhouse in Westfield and Barley Island in Noblesville. No matter where he went, Jack never met a stranger, and no matter who you were, he spoke with you as if he'd known you forever. He loved his family most of all though, and especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters, grand-cats, and grand-dogs.
He is survived by his wife, Debby (Layton) Davis; a daughter, Mandy (Tony Mulhern) Davis of Noblesville; a son, Rob (Emily Shaw) Davis of Fishers; two granddaughters, Isabella Davis and Hadley McGuire; four brothers, Stan (Dena) Davis of Fort Wayne, Tim Davis of Anderson, Rick (Michelle) Hall of Arizona, and Mike (Teresa) Hall of Fishers; two sisters, Kathy Hall of Indianapolis and Leia (Rick) Ogan of Elwood; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Clarence Hall; his stepmother, Laura Mae Davis; and his former son-in-law Ed Bachta.
