Jack L. Elijah, 92, of Anderson, passed away January 29, 2016 at his residence after a brief illness.
He was born February 25, 1923 in Anderson to the late Lysle and Luella (Garrard) Elijah and lived most of his life in the Anderson area. He graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1941 and then served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the D-Day Allied Invasion of Normandy in Northern France.
Jack retired in 1979 from Delco-Remy after 38.1 years where he was Assistant Superintendant.
He was a member of Park Place Methodist Church, Eagles Lodge 174, V.F.W. Post 266 and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Bette Elijah of Anderson; son, Jerry (wife, Sue) Elijah of Anderson; daughter, Susan (husband, John) Rhule of Anderson; four grandchildren, Nicole (John) Brown of Anderson, Eric (wife, Mollie) Elijah of Pendleton, Nathalie Rhule of San Diego, CA., and Haylie Rhule of Anderson; eight great grandchildren, Joanna Brown, Jack A. Elijah, Grace Elijah, Wyatt Elijah, Elijah Rhule, Remington Humphries, Blaise Humphries and Chance Rhule; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
The family wishes to thank Carrie Rolland and the staff at Bennett Rehabilitation Center and Joanne Smith, Kelli Crandall and Cheryl Harrington with St. Vincent Hospice and Dr. Brian Eddy for the special care given to Jack. Casual attire is permitted for the funeral.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 266 Honor Guard.
Visitation will be 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
