Jack Cox, 72, Noblesville, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2008, at Saint John's Health System in Anderson following a brief illness.
He was born on March 2, 1936, in Bessemer, Alabama to Van and Mildred (Thomas) Cox.
Jack had been employed at the former Davis Dairy and had a plumbing business in Lapel for many years. He had also been employed at the former Guide Lamp division of General Motors in Anderson and E & B Paving. He at one time ran the Lapel Car Wash and had several rental properties.
He was a member of the Lapel American Legion Post 212 . Jack enjoyed fishing and camping and visiting. He was always willing to help others with his skills.
He is survived by seven children, Tracy Cox of Noblesville, Jack Cox, Jr. of Noblesville, Melinda (husband, Ken) Summay of Fishers, Gayle Cox of Noblesville, Penny (husband, John) Franks of Noblesville, Carey (husband, Mark) Robinson-Todd of Winchester, Jo Ann Cox (husband Steve Long) of Carmel; one sister, Joy (husband, Chester)Porter of Cadiz, OH; fifteen grandchildren, Justin, Skye, Rachel, Kayla, Kimberly, Shelby, Brandi, Dakota, Xavier, Tasha, Logan, Austin, Gracie, Zack and Taylor..
He was preceded in death by his parents; his companion, Brenda Welch; and the mother of his children, Patricia A. Cox.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Monday, September 22, 2008, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Fred Harting officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel, where the Lapel American Legion Post will perform military graveside rites.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, September 21, 2008, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
