J. Wilbur Pettigrew, 89, Anderson, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2008, at Community Hospital of Anderson following an extended illness.
He was born on April 19, 1919, in Madison County, Indiana to Mark and India (McClintick) Pettigrew.
He graduated from Anderson High School in 1937 and attended Anderson University and Ball State University.
Wilbur retired in 1999 from Delphi after 59 years of employment.
He was a U. S. Navy veteran of WWII and served in the Naval reserve for many years. He was a member of the Anderson Elks No. 209.
He is survived by his wife, Mary M. (Lackey) Pettigrew; two children, Charme Pettigrew of Westfield, and Clifford A. Pettigrew of Pendleton; one step-son, Philip D. Boone of Lapel; two grandsons, Mark Pettigrew of Lapel and Trace Pettigrew of Pendleton; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Bryce Pettigrew; a niece Lynn (husband, Garth) Jones of Anderson; his brother-in-law, John Gray of Anderson; his sister-in-law, Ruth Pettigrew of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Vaughn Pettigrew; and a sister, Mona Gray.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Pastor Doug Barton officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday, September 22, 2008, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
