J. Harold Berkshire

March 11, 1929 — April 20, 2016

J. Harold Berkshire, 87, passed away April 20, 2016, at his residence after an extended illness.

He was born March 11, 1929, in Marshfield, IN, the son of the late Earl and Edith Berkshire. He moved to Anderson in 1967 from West Lebanon and was in the insurance business for 43 years retiring from Anderson Banking Company Insurance Department after 17 years. He served in the US Army receiving a Purple Heart during the Korean War. He was a member and past president of the Anderson Noon Lion’s Club and while living in West Lebanon he helped organize the Lion’s Club, The Little League Program, and also Volunteered on the Fire Department and served on the Cemetery Board.

He is survived by his daughter, Gina Berkshire of Anderson; a brother-in-law, Emmett Bonebrake and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Berkshire; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mary and Jack Cockey, Peggy Bonebrake and Bill Bonebrake.

Graveside Service will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 22, 2016, at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel with Rev. Bill Mathys officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the VFW Post #266.

A special Thanks to Dr. Zook and staff for all their care and concerns.

Friends may call at the chapel from 10:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Friday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Anderson Noon Lion’s Club or the Madison County Humane Society.
