Howard L. Willis

Howard L. Willis, age 87, of Shirley, passed away Thursday afternoon, December 12, 2019. He was born March 4, 1932 in Indianapolis the son of the late Donald J. and Florence R. (Miller) Willis Sr. Howard graduated from Wilkinson High School in 1952 and proudly served his country in the Korean War as Sergeant from 1952-1953. He was a member of the Shirley Lodge # 531 where he served as past master three times, member of the New Castle O.E.S #116, and served as Worthy Grand Patron for the State of Indiana from 2000-2001. Howard retired from Fisher Guide in Anderson after 32 years of service in 1994. In 1971 he along with his brothers and their spouses established Willieville Campground in Jennings Co. where many memories have been made by the entire Willis family. Howard also had a workshop for wood and stain glass crafts that he enjoyed doing. He was a member of the Shirley Wilkinson United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kathleen (Rushton) Willis of Franklin; children, Rosetta (Mike) Casey of New Castle, Dan (Darlene) Willis of Charlottesville, Ricci (Jody) Willis of Knightstown; four grandchildren; Rebekah (Jared) Evans, Jamalyn Casey, Travis Willis, Kaylee (Aaron) Dague; nine great grandchildren; sister, Viola Irwin. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; Kenny and Don Willis Jr., sisters; Velma Jean McDonald and Gladys Irene Willis. Funeral service will be held Monday, December 16, 2019 at 11:00 A.M.at Condo and St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory with Rev. Kurt Stone officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 2 to 6 at the funeral home with New Castle O.E.S #116 Service at 5:00 P.M. and the Shirley Lodge # 531 Service at 5:20 P.M.
