Hester M. Metzger

Hester M. Metzger, 85, Lapel, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at her home. She was born on December 13, 1927, in Pitsburg, Ohio to Owen and Susie (Miller) Sides. She graduated from Lapel High School in 1946. She was a member of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church in rural Pendleton. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lester Metzger; eight children, Bob (wife, Susan) Metzger of Lapel, Wayne Metzger of Pendleton, Gerald (wife, Kathy) Metzger of Noblesville, Marilyn (husband, Eldon) Garber of Pendleton, Margaret (husband, Roger) Garber of Chambersburg, PA, Patricia (husband, Jesse) Riffey of Hillsboro, WI, John Metzger of Pendleton, and Bill (wife, Beth) Metzger of Lapel; one son-in-law, Tom Richardson of Paoli; twenty-nine grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Joe (wife, Essie) Sides, Oliver (wife, Ina) Sides, Walter Sides, and Harley Sides; two sisters, Ethel Jamison, and Eunice (husband, Lester) Filbrun; a brother-in-law, Charles Yoder; three sisters-in-law, Jessie Sides, June Metzger, and Mildred (husband, Paul) Garber; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Marillis Richardson; three great-grandchildren, Wyatt Brubaker, Nolan and Waylan Metzger; brothers Lester (wife, Martha) Sides, Charley Sides; sisters, Ruth (husbands, Lester Hollinger and Dorman Hudson), Florence (husband, Emmett) Brubaker, and Phyllis Yoder; brothers-in-law, Merle Jamison, and Bill (wife, Gladys) Metzger; sisters-in-law, Billye Sides, Jerry Sides, and Beulah (husband, Clarence) Cook. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Old German Baptist Brethren Church in Pendleton. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Pendleton. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
