Herbert H. Hobbs

Herbert H. Hobbs, Sr., 86, Lapel, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville following an extended illness. He was born on September 30, 1928, in Osaka, Virginia to George and Minnie (Mullins) Hobbs. Herb was a U. S. Army veteran and retired from the former Hi-Way Dispatch trucking company in Marion. He was a member of the Indianapolis American Legion Post and the Teamster's Union Local 135. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth (Wells) Hobbs; six children, Sharon (husband, Estes) Boles of Lapel, Shirley (husband, Rich) Ligman of Lapel, Herb, Jr. "Buck" Hobbs of Anderson, Glen (wife, Marla) Hobbs of Anderson, Billy Joe Hobbs of Anderson, and Randy Hobbs of Anderson; nine grandchildren, Michael (wife, Michelle) Boles, Matthew (wife, Stacey) Boles, Stacy (husband, Jim) Weeks, Todd (wife, Wendi) Johnson, Chris Hobbs, Brittany (husband, Chris) Land, Ashley Hobbs, Travis Hobbs, Kacie Hobbs; fourteen great-grandchildren, Breanna, Brooklynn, Delaney, Savannah, and Addison Boles, Cameron and Shelby Weeks, Kaylee, Logan and Emma Johnson, Tyler, Alexis, and Christopher Hobbs, Camdyn Land; four brothers; and six sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, one sister; and a great-granddaughter, Alexa Brynn Land. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 22, 2014, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev.s Jerry Jones, Lawrence Leeman, and Paul McCool officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday, November 22, 2014, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children's Hospital.
