Herb Sears

Herb Sears, 92, Anderson, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010, at his home.
He was born on August 11, 1918, in Pendleton, Indiana to John and Mabel (Ryan) Sears.
He graduated from Lapel High School in 1936 and received a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1949. He served as a first sergeant in the U. S. Army during WWII.
Herb retired in 1981 from Western Electric/A T & T in Indianapolis after 25 years of employment. He was also a former licensed professional engineer in the state of Kansas. He had also farmed the family farm his entire life.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel; over 50 year member of the Lapel Masonic Lodge No. 625; Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis; Murat Temple Shrine; Madison County Shrine Club; and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary (Smith) Sears; two children, Bill (wife, Connie) Sears of Anderson, and Becky (husband, Arnold) Sears Burkart of Muncie; three grandchildren, Todd Sears of Lapel, Chris (wife, Shelby) Sears of Lapel, and Laurel (husband, Alan) Burkart Reyes of Muncie; one great-granddaughter, Samantha Sears; two step-sons, Gary Byer of Lapel and Ron Byer Arkansas; one step-daughter, Jane Cook of Southport; and several step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy (Kemper) Sears.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Pastor Doug Barton officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday, October 4, 2010, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel where a Masonic memorial service will be held at 7:30 pm.
