Anderson – Henry “Hank” E. Thering, 89, of Anderson, passed away on August 21, 2017 at his residence. Hank was born on May 19, 1928 in Bronx, New York to the late Henry and Clara (Gartung) Thering. Hank worked at Delco Remy for over 33 years as Manager of employee benefits and services before retiring in 1987. He graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. degree in Hotel Administration. Hank served his country in the United States Air Force with the rank of Sargent. Hank was very active with St. Ambrose Catholic Church and St. Vincent de Paul Society. He enjoyed golfing and traveling. The family would like to thank St Vincent Hospice, especially Joanne Smith, and Donna from Home Instead for all of their loving kindness. Hank is survived by his children, Patty (Doyle) Foster of Pendleton, John Thering of Anderson; grandchildren, Julie (Alex) Lute, Stacy (Clay) Helvie; great grandchildren, Hayden Lute, Isabel Lute, Blaine Helvie, Savannah Helvie; sister, Margaret (Eddie) Balli; sister in-law, Marge Thering, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte (Morris) Thering, and a brother, Ferd Thering. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday at 1:00 pm at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with Monsignor Robert Sell officiating. Entombment will be at Anderson Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Friday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the church. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Schools or St. Vincent de Paul Society, PO Box 951, Anderson, 46016.
