Helen died peacefully with her loving family at her bedside this morning, at the age of 93. She grew up on the farm, during The Great Depression, in rural Hamilton County with 6 siblings: Delbert, Dorothy, Mary, Nyle, Bob and Ralph and parents Fred and Verna Todd – all of whom pre-deceased her. In 1961, Helen and husband of nearly 61 years, Guthrie Len Edwards, 1921 – 2003, opened an insurance agency to begin saving to give their sons an opportunity for education that they never had. With no experience or education in business, Helen got her insurance license and just figured out how to run their insurance agency with an office in their home; she ran the office in the daytime and Len picked up when he came home from work, they were a success.
Helen is survived by two sons: Dr. Gary B. Edwards [Jan) of Anderson and Eric L. Edwards [Beth Clymer Edwards) of Fishers and her very special Granddaughter, Whitney Edwards Mulroney (Kevin) of Newport, KY and Great-Grandson Brogan Michael Mulroney, born 12/11/14. Also surviving is her friend of 75 years, Rosalie Fuqua of Fortville, Sisters-in-Law Dean Todd of Anderson and Louise Todd of Tampa, FL, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 E. 53rd St in Anderson; Visitation will be Friday, March 6 from 5-8 PM with funeral the following day, on Saturday, March 7. There will be a visitation from 11-12 immediately followed by the funeral service at 12:00 with Pastor Dennis Zirkle officiating. Graveside services will be held immediately after the funeral at Anderson Memorial Park. Memorial Contributions, in Mom’s memory, may be directed to The Madison County Humane Society or to Dove Harbor, both in Anderson. As difficult as her last three months were, that period was made so much better by the amazing care and love received from the nursing and therapy staff at Countryside Manor of Anderson. What a wonderful difference they all made for Helen and her family.
