Helen J. Wolverton, 96, passed into heaven, two days before her 97th birthday, on August 18, 2014, at Bethany Pointe Health Campus.
She was born in Jackson County on August 20, 1917, the daughter of Ralph and Elsie (Gilbert) Henderson. She lived most of her adult life in Anderson.
Helen was a good Christian woman who thought of others before herself. She loved to sing and bake, especially her delicious cakes. She was a wonderful Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Helen was primarily a homemaker and mother, but also worked outside the home. She worked at Guide Lamp during World War II, and also as a retail clerk and many stores in the Anderson area, such as JC Penney and Montgomery Ward.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Betty (Carl) King of Anderson and Peggy Mayles of Vincennes; grandchildren, Sherry King of Greentown, Denise (Jack) Ashcraft of Muncie, Julie King Farley of Anderson, Jennifer Schilke-Ray of Mooresville, Jason (Kristy) Mayles of Decker and Michael (Misty) Mayles of Vincennes; 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Wolverton; second husband, Calvin Wools; brother Edwin Henderson and sister Yvonne Louderback.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory with Rev. Paul Werling officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
