Hassel E. “Hack” Phipps, 80, of Anderson, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 following an extended illness. He was born in Crossville, TN on October 16, 1936, the son of the late Charles and Georgia (Reed) Phipps. He served in the U.S. Navy and then settled in Anderson where he worked as a supervisor for Nicholson File until the plant closure. Hassel was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Moose Lodge, the American Legion and the Eagles Lodge. He is survived by his children, Tommy Brummett of Anderson, Hayden Brummett of Anderson, Hershel Brummett of Middletown, Sherry (Mitch) Emmons of Washington, MO, Shelly (Jerri) Harter of Middletown and Brett Phipps of Anderson; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Earl Phipps and Earnest Phipps; sister-in-law, Ann Phipps; step-children, Steve Carter, Morris Savage, Rick Savage and Terry Lyons; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nyla Lyons. Services will be at 1pm Saturday, at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory. Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery, Middletown. Visitation will be 4-8pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to C.A.S.T. For Kids, 297 SW41st St, Renton, WA 98057.
