Harvey D. Luttrull

December 19, 1922 — September 12, 2015

Harvey D. Luttrull, 92, Yorktown, without pain or suffering entered Glory on September 12, 2015, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Chesterfield.

He was born December 19, 1922, in Lone Tree, Iowa, the son of the late Pleasant Isaac and Opal O. (Nelson) Luttrull. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during WWII, stationed in the Philippines. He moved to the Yorktown area where he lived most of his adult life. On April 11, 1950 he married the former Virginia Miller who preceded him in death on March 24, 2012. Harvey retired from Delco-Remy in 1976 following 30 years of employment. For the next 19 yrs he drove charter busses for Econoway Motor Coach retiring in 1995. He was an active member of Grace Baptist Church of Anderson, where he served in various weekly ministries for over 50 yrs.

Harvey was a self taught engineer and craftsman. He hand crafted everything from coaster wagons for his grand kids to constructing complete vehicles from scratch. His crowning achievement was building a replica of a 1910 Maxwell which, by his own admission, was the fulfillment of a childhood dream to “build his own car”.

He is survived by his sons, Jeffery ( Jeanne ) Luttrull of Anderson and David (Cindy) Luttrull of Alexandria; grandchildren Angela (Jared) Rankin of Nashville Tenn., Josiah ( Stephanie) Luttrull of Portsmouth Va., Scott (Sarah) Luttrull of Taylor Mills Ky, Jennifer ( Dan) Lambert of Randolph Center, Vermont and David ( Becca) Luttrull of Anderson; great grandchildren, Madison Rankin, Hudson Harvey Rankin, Ellison Rankin, Liam Luttrull, Cade Luttrull, Bristol Luttrull, Remington Lambert,; brother, Thomas Luttrull of MO; sister Grace Mills of Chesterfield; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to Virginia, he was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Miller’s Merry Manor, Chesterfield, for their incredible love and concern for Harvey that was demonstrated daily in their care for him.

Funeral service will be at 10 am, Saturday at Grace Baptist Church, 432 West 300 North, with Pastor Doug Stein officiating. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery, Yorktown.
