Gilbert Paul Hiday, 88, Arcadia, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at his home following an extended illness.He was born on September 12, 1928, in Anderson to Cecil and Cleo (Robinette) Hiday. He lived and farmed most of his life in White River Township of Hamilton County.Paul was graduated from the former Walnut Grove High School in 1946 and he served in the Army Signal Corps during the Korean War. He was discharged as a first lieutenant in October 1953.He loved and served his Lord for well over sixty-five years and served as a deacon under the leadership of several different pastors at the Prairie Baptist Church in rural Noblesville. He was a loving husband and a devoted father to his children and he brought them up to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior. Paul is survived by his wife of 65 years, Wanda (Carmony) whom he married October 12, 1951; five daughters, Debbie Wedmore of Westfield, Beverly (David) Achenbach of Cicero, Jayne (Daniel) Blazier of Noblesville, Cathi (Philip) Barker of Westfield, and Mary Beth Hiday of Arcadia; twelve grandchildren, Brian Wedmore, Jennie Acosta, Laurie Wedmore, Matthew (Chris) Achenbach, Joel (Devon) Achenbach, Lisa Achenbach, Micah Achenbach, Sarah (Gerrad) James, Zachary Blazier, Veronica (Jesse) Winkelman, Jessica Barker and Casie (Michael) McElhany; eighteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Minnie Belle Tooley of Anderson and Bernadine Hiday of Elwood.He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gregory Paul; three brothers, John, Donald, and Robert; and four sisters, Velma Stern, Bernice Hamel, Vera Holt, and Inez House.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Prairie Baptist Church, 14790 East 206th Street, Noblesville with David and Joel Achenbach officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, June 30, 2017, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 Main North Street, Lapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
