Geraldine Barrett Isaacs DeaKyne, 85, Anderson, passed away October 7, 2015 at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital after a brief illness. “Jerry” was born April 7, 1930 in Anderson. She was a member of East Lynn Christian Church until 1990 then Chesterfield Christian Church, thereafter. Jerry graduated from Anderson High School in 1948, married Elisha “Bud” Isaacs February 18, 1950, and was Executive Secretary at American Playground Device Co., Anderson from 1950 to 1980. Husband Bud died 30 June 1991. She moved from her home in the country to Redbud Park in 1992. Jerry married Jim DeaKyne, Anderson, Indiana on August 7, 2001.
Jerry enjoyed sports, especially golf, and was a long-time Secretary of Grandview Ladies Golf Club. She enjoyed crafts and hobbies, especially quilting, and was an avid gardener while living in the country. For several years she made beautiful wedding cakes. Jerry loved to travel and made many trips to Upper Michigan, Oregon, Arizona, and Florida. Nahma, Michigan and Lake Placid, Florida were favorite destinations where she spent many summer and winter vacations with friends and family. She especially was fond of annual Isaacs family reunions. Jerry and Jim traveled extensively throughout the US to sightsee, visit friends and family and attend special family events.
Jerry is survived by her husband, Jim DeaKyne, sister Jackie (Barrett) Skaggs, and brother Charles Barrett Jr. of Anderson, son, Frank Isaacs and his wife Jane Olson of Philomath, Oregon and daughter Rebecca “Becky” (Isaacs) Sneed and husband Tony of Avon, and two grandchildren, Eric Olson Isaacs and Elizabeth Wren Isaacs of Philomath Oregon. Extended family (Jim’s children) includes Jeff and Kathy DeaKyne of Carmel, Julia and David Cunningham of Fishers, nine step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel (Wood) Barrett, father Charles Everett Barrett Sr., and husband Elisha “Bud” Isaacs of Anderson and sister Dorothy (Barrett) Highbaugh, Lakeside, Arizona.
Visitation will begin Monday at 11 a.m. and funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory with Pastor Ned Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jerry’s memory to Chesterfield Christian Church, 207 East Plum St., Chesterfield, Indiana 46017.
