Mr. George W. Collins

George W. Collins, 102, passed away Friday, June 5, 2020 at Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield, Indiana. He was born July 22, 1917, in Nashville, Hancock Co, Indiana to the late Homer A. & Cora A. (Keller) Collins. George graduated from Wilkinson High School in 1935 and married his high school sweetheart Avanelle Brumfield of Shirley in 1938. He began his work career in Anderson, was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, spent a number of years farming the family farm and was a Federal food inspector for 20 years in Napoleon, Ohio. He was member of Wilkinson Church of Christ, served as elder for many years at First Church of Christ in Napoleon while living in Ohio, a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and Anderson American Legion. George is survived by his daughters, Pam (John) Riley of Carthage, IN & Rhonda (Bill) Shelton of Indian Trail, NC; grandchildren, Chris Shelton, Amanda (Chad) White, Breanna (Nick) Bush, John T. Riley, & James (Natalie) Riley; great grandchildren, Sarah (Alex) Hilbert, Hannah, Joannah, Aliyah, Isabel, & Irulan Riley, Taelyn, Kydis, & Zyden White; several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Avanelle (Brumfield) Collins; siblings, Ivan Collins, Vivian Fryback, Mary Alice Anderson Needle; niece, Candice Dominguez; and nephew, Elmer Collins. The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at Springhurst Health Campus for their years of love and care for George and our whole family. Private Graveside services were conducted at McCray Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Condo & St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Wilkinson.
