George “Pete” Danforth, 78, Anderson, passed away on April 29, 2019 at Community Hospital Anderson. He was born on June 18, 1940 in Frankton to the late George R. and Virginia (Johnson) Danforth. Pete graduated from Anderson High School in 1959 and Ball State University in 1967. He started teaching in 1968 at Central Jr. High and moved to Anderson High School in 1969 teaching history, government, and sociology. He advanced to Dean of Girls AHS, and retired as Dean of Students from Highland High School in 2005. Pete coached baseball for the Indians from 1969 to the 1980’s. He played on the only undefeated baseball team at AHS during the 1959 season. To date that record still stands. Pete loved playing tennis, golf, fishing, gardening, and mowing his lawn. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Ellis) Danforth whom he met on a blind date and married six months later on August 8, 1970; daughter, Rebecca Elizabeth (Chris) Hagerty of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Harvey Danforth Hagerty, Archer Patrick Hagerty; sisters, Janice Comer, Connie Wise, in-laws Rebecca (Richard) Howard, Chester (Penny) Ellis II, Philip (Linda) Ellis, Duane (Sue) Ellis, Marilyn (Larry) Chandler. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Pete was preceded in death by his brother in-laws, Herb Ellis, Gene Comer, and Kenneth Wise. Services will be on Friday at 1:00 pm at Christ Lutheran Church, 2751 Scatterfield Rd, Anderson, IN 46012. Burial will be at East Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 E. 53rd St. Anderson, Indiana 46013. Memorial Contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or the American Diabetes Association.
