Gene F. Jarrett, 93, of Carmel, and formerly of Anderson passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Summer Trace in Carmel. He was born April 20, 1923 in Indianapolis to the late Ottice F. and Bertha (Smith) Jarrett. Gene moved to Greenfield at an early age and then to Pendleton in 1929 where he graduated from Pendleton High School. Most of Gene’s life was lived in Madison County. Gene served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater and was awarded the Silver Star. He joined the Anderson City Police in 1946; moved to the Indiana State Police in 1952 and retired from there in 1973 with the rank of Major. He then worked in Plant Security for Delco Remy for twelve years. Gene was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He is survived by son, Steven (Teresa) Jarrett of Tucson, AZ; two granddaughters, Erin (Stephen) Miller of Bloomington, IN and Ryn Jarrett of Carmel, IN; two great grandchildren, Madelyn and Samuel Miller both of Bloomington, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Valeria (McKinney) Jarrett; his parents, and two brothers, Gordon and John Jarrett. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service and Crematory is handling the arrangements.
