Gary L. Miller

Gary L. Miller, 67, Lapel, passed away Monday, August 12, 2019, at his home in Lapel following a brief illness, surrounded by his family.He was born on May 13, 1952, in Shelbyville, Indiana to Robert Chalmer Miller and Mary Francis (Smtih) Miller.Gary graduated from Triton Central High School class of 1970. He also graduated from ITT with an associate degree in Architecture. He retired from Guide Lamp, a division of General Motors, after 28 years. Gary was responsible for three patents on composite head lamps, which was the first for General Motors. After retirement he worked for Tractor Supply for 6 years and was a Funeral Assistant at Hersberger Funeral Home for 12 years. Gary enjoyed growing up working on the family farm with his parents. He was a member of The Spokesman bicycle club for three years after high school. He was a 4-H member and a Junior Leader in Shelby County. He had the privilege of taking several exhibits to the State Fair. Gary also coached T-Ball, and Little League girls softball for several years. He was very involved in his childrens activities during their school years. Gary loved Indiana University basketball, and showing off his 1969 Camaro. He is survived by wife Vickie (Shetterly) Miller of Lapel; two children, Chad (Megan) Miller of Noblesville, Jenifer (Tobias) Bushong of Lafayette; a sister, Cindy (Ray) Wetnight of Shelbyville; granddaughters, Kirsten, Alyson, Emma, Ellie, and Eva; his dog Bella. He was also survived by 3 nephews, a niece, and a dear family friend, Mike Brown. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, and a nephew, Andrew RyanThe family would like to thank Dr. Sumeet Bhatia, Jennifer Berry, NP and their staff at Community North Cancer Center for their wonderful care. A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, August 16, 2019, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana with Rev. Patrick Propst officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.Visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at, Scott E.
