Gary Alfred Young

Gary Alfred Young, 73, Anderson, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Saint Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital following a sudden illness. He was born on February 4, 1940, in Neche, North Dakota to Earl and Iola (Askew) Young. He received a bachelor of science in education from the University of North Dakota in 1962 and he received a doctor of Chiropractic from New York Chiropractic College in 1979. Gary was the owner and operator of Dr. Gary A. Young Chiropractic in Anderson for 34 years. He was a member of the New Horizons United Methodist Church in Anderson and was a Lay speaker in the church. He was a member of the Indiana State Chiropractic Association; International Chiropractors Association; Sacro-Occipital Research Society; Madison County Chamber of Commerce; the Institute of Certified Professional Managers; and a life-long member of the Fellowship Masonic Lodge No. 681. He is survived by his wife, De Anna Faye (Jaquess) Young; two children, Kenneth (wife, Cheryl) Young of Marlboro, Mass., Beverly (husband, Mike) Fortney of Lasalle, MN; three step-children, Ranelle (husband, Randy) Duncan of Frankton, and Michelle Smith of Albion, Chris (wife, Darlene) Harting of Valdosta, GA; one sister, Dorothy Sgutt of Mesa, AZ; thirteen grandchildren, Brian, Laura, and Beth Young, Benjamin Fortney, Tiffany Ibeling, Dominic Foster, Malcolm J. Foster, Richmond Hall, Christopher A. Harting, Jr., Josephine M. Harting, Deanna F. Harting, Kayla G. Hall, and Savannah A. Neal; four great-grandchildren, Vernonica, Zachary, and Christopher Ibeling, and Katherine R. McMillian; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Kent Young. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel at a later date. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. .
