Garold L. (Monk) Anderson, 83, Lapel, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born on April 3, 1922, in Curtisville, Indiana to Ira and Obie (Perkins) Anderson. He attended Lapel High School and was a U. S. Army Air Force veteran of WW II who served in the Philippines and New Guinea. He had been employed by several businesses including the Town of Lapel and finally owned and operated Anderson Trucking for 18 years. He was a member of the Lapel Volunteer Fire Department for 17 years, the Noblesville Moose Lodge and the American RC Flying Modelers Club. He enjoyed fishing; feeding humming birds, squirrels and rabbits; flying remote control airplanes and helicopters; and could be seen most any nice day riding around Lapel on his moped collecting aluminum cans for the can crusher he built. He is survived by his wife, Martha Anderson; four daughters, Judy (husband, David) Cornelius of Ft. Myers, FL, Shirley Wood of Montgomery, AL, Nancy Horn of Lapel, and Carolyn Remy of Ft. Myers, FL; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Gary (Renee) Anderson of Lapel; eleven grandchildren, Terri (husband, Rob) Williams, Chris (wife, Trisha) Needler, Shelly (husband, Ken) Secrest, Christy (husband, Sandy) King, Dodi (husband, Todd) Sylvester, Mike (wife, Tara) Wallace, Lisa (husband, Perry) Bush, Jr., Tommy Anderson, Danny Anderson, Amanda Anderson, and Katy Anderson; four step-grandchildren, Tim Wood, Cindy (husband, Roger) Corley, Phillip Wood, and Kelly Marcum; thirteen great-grandchildren, Shannon and Shon Delawter, Ken, Jr. and Jacob Secrest, Jessica and Jordan Goldman, Shelby Schultz, Lucas Sylvester, Brooke Elizabeth Wallace, David Anderson, Darren Bush, and Kailey and Kennedy Stockdale; four step-great-grandchildren, Jesse Williams, Matthew and Ethan Von Bank, Justin Pascal, Carrie Corley, Ira, Tim, and O'Mally Marcum, and P. J. Bush. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Obie (Perkins) Anderson, Stephenson; one son, Gary Anderson; and one daughter, Valoris Mardelle "Vicki" Anderson. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. Burial will be at the Brookside Cemetery in Lapel. Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel.
