Garfield G. Steedman, 92, Franklin, passed away Monday, March 1, 2004, at Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin following a brief illness.
He was born on January 10, 1912, in Churchville, NY to William and Jean (Donald) Steedman. He received a BA from Taylor University in Upland and a Masters in Theology from Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, NJ. He served as pastor at Cicero UMC, Williamsburg-Greens Fork UMC, Kendallville UMC, Bourbon UMC, Trinity UMC (Lapel), Union City UMC, Mishawaka East UMC, and Church of the Savior UMC in Cleveland Heights, OH where he retired in 1977. He attended Grace UMC in Franklin and was a member of the Lapel Lions Club, the Union City Rotary, and the North Webster Kiwanis. He is survived by his wife, Marian (Matthew) Steedman; two sons, Donald L. Steedman of Covington, KY and Richard B. Steedman of Evansville; seven grandchildren, David A. Steedman, Angela L. Vasser, Allison J. Steedman, Brian J. Steedman, Emily S. Steedman, Jeffrey M. Steedman, Daniel A. Steedman; one great-grandson, Carson Matthew Vasser; and two daughters-in-law, Kathy Steedman and Barbara Steedman. He was preceded in death in 1990 by a son, Robert W. "Rob" Steedman. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday at North Webster United Methodist Church in North Webster with Rev. Scott Mann officiating. Friends may call from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday or 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Thursday at the North Webster United Methodist Church in North Webster and 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM Thursday at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Lapel. A commital service will follow in Brookside Cemetery in Lapel with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Committee on Overseas Relief, c/o Grace UMC, 1300 East Adams, Franklin, Indiana 46131.
