Fred Ray Willoughby, 85, Lapel, passed away Friday, May 8, 2015, at Alexandria Care Center following an extended illness. He was born on September 4, 1929, in Scottsville, Kentucky to Porter and Hallie (Tabor) Willoughby. Fred retired in 1993 from Brockway Glass in Lapel after 40 years of employment. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley Ann (Figg) Willoughby; three children, Michael Willoughby of Lebanon, VA, Renee Coomes of Anderson, and Cheryl (husband, Joe) Green of Lapel; ten grandchildren, Tony Willoughby, Edward Willoughby, Justin Lawrence, Latisha Lawrence, Heather O'Brien, Jared Castor, and Joshua Castor, Mitchell Scherer, Travis Scherer, and Haley Scherer; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Willoughby and Myrtle Willoughby; and a special niece, Linda Carol Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Roger Willoughby; two brothers, Leon and Leweldon Willoughby; and a sister, Dewaine Reynolds. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Joshua Castor officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Alexandria Care Center and The Hospice Group for their kind care of Fred.
