Frank Austin, 80, of Anderson, passed away August 22, 2017 at Community Northview Care Center. He was born January 4, 1937, in Anderson, the son of Wilbur “Bill” and Grace (Carpenter) Austin and lived in the area his entire life. Frank married Barbara Lamb on July 10, 1960 and together they raised their family. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He then worked as a truck driver for Madison County for 20 years. He was a member of VFW Post 266, AMVETS, American Legion 408, Veterans of Madison County and Civil Defense. He was also Sachen and Past State Great Sachen of the Redman’s Lodge and Past Chief, Past State Great Chief and Past National Chief of the Haymakers. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Austin; children, Jeffrey (Judy) Austin, Kelly (Laura) Austin and Vikki (Leroy) George; sisters, Mary Coffman, Kay Minnifeld, Pam Beeman, Sharon Austin and Diana Austin; brothers, Harvey Austin, Paul (Frances) Austin and Larry (Elsie) Austin; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; special friend, John Martin “Mean Kid” Landers; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur Austin; mother, Grace McCune; daughter, Debbie Knight; son Jonnie Austin; sister, Helen Newland; and brother, Hershel Austin. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory with Pastor Rick Craig officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Walk Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
