Frank Anderson, Jr., 92, of Pendleton, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 with his loving wife, Leona, by his side. He was born October 13, 1924 to Frank and Edna Marie (Huffman) Anderson of Lapel, Indiana. Frank had three older brothers, Harold, James and Richard.He attended Lapel schools through 12th grade, where sports dominated his extracurricular activities. Frank was a pitcher on his baseball team and a captain on the basketball team. He was also the President of his senior class.After high school, Frank was accepted for a tool and die apprenticeship with General Motors. Six months later, he was drafted into the US Navy during WWII. He reported to Great Lakes Naval Training Station in Chicago. He served on the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown until the end of the war. When he returned home, Frank resumed his apprenticeship at Delco Remy and continued his career there for 44 years, retiring in 1986.Frank married Leona Jean Ridgway on July 9, 1943 while home on leave during WWII. He was 18 years old and she was 17. They have been married for 73 years.He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church. He was very active for many years in Toastmasters International, an organization dedicated to improving ones public speaking skills, a driver for Shriners Hospital for Children, a member of the American Legion, a member of the Madison Masonic Lodge, and very active in the Pendleton Little League Baseball Organization. Frank enjoyed a variety of interests. He was an avid golfer, political enthusiast, and a robust debater on many topics. He also enjoyed reading, listening to music, and advising his children and grandchildren on leading a successful life.Survivors include his wife, Leona, and children, Judy Flatt (Carlton) of Brentwood, Tennessee, Dennis (Elaine) of Fort Worth, Texas, David (Mary) of Duncanville, Texas and Jon Paul (Nancy) of Carmel; nine grandchildren, Grace Ann Holbert, Lisa Berry, Lara Dawson, Kurt Anderson, Chris Anderson, Kara Snyder, Elie Mason, Clayton Anderson and Allison Anderson; and 15 great-grandchildren.Frank was a devoted husband and father and was dearly loved and respected by his family. He valued a good education and was a lifelong learner himself. Because of his oldest brother’s influence, he was a strong Indiana University supporter. He strongly encouraged his four children to attend and graduate from Indiana University. He was always very proud of his family and they were proud of him.Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, 211 E. State St., Pendleton, Indiana 46064 with Dr. Doug Walker officiating.
