Eulala Roettger

Eulala Roettger, 102, of Anderson, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2021.
She was born April 27, 1919, in Stony Creek Township of Madison County, the daughter of Chester and Nelle (George) Graham.
Eulala married Paul Roettger, May 22, 1948, he died in an automobile accident on December 16, 1969.
She graduated from Lapel High School in 1937. She attended Indiana Central College (Indianapolis) from 1937-1939 and graduated with a 2 year certificate, Ball State Teachers College ( Muncie) 1945-1949 with a BS in Education, Ball State Teachers College 1955-1959 with a MA in Education. She also did graduate study from 1960-1981 at Indiana University, Purdue University, Earlham College, University of Virginia, University of Illinois, and Northern Illinois University.
Eulala taught school at Lapel from 1939-1947, Lincoln High School, Cambridge City from 1947-1950, Central Elementary & Parkway Junior High School, Cambridge City from 1953-1957, and finished her teaching career at Grandview Jr. High School in Connersville, IN from 1957-1984. After her retirement, she remained very involved with many interests. She volunteered for several years at the McCurdy School of Northern New Mexico in Espanola, NM as a teacher and mentor. After returning to live in Anderson from Cambridge City, she spent many hours volunteering at the Paramount Theater, the Fine Arts Center, St. Johns Hospital and Pet-A-Pal. She made many friends from her volunteering.
She received the Teacher of the Year Award in 1981. She also participated in many photo contests and won several awards, including The Kodak International Newspaper Snapshot Award. She was nominated by St. Johns Hospital and received the Daily Point of Light Award in 2020.
Eulala loved to read and travel and gave many programs of her travels with slides and commentaries of her experiences.She was a member of Pi Lamdba Theta, Psi lots Xi, Delta Kappa Gamma, Indiana School Women, Connersville Altrusa and Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews: George Likens, Herbert Likens, Ava Likens Autrey, Nancy Likens Kakasuleff, Sue Beanblossom, Marjorie Willets Patterson, Richard Graham, Doug, Graham, Janet Graham, Merrillyn Graham Muncy, Steve Pritchard, Ruth Ann Pritchard Rotterdam, Jim Eckhardt, and Doug Eckhardt.
Eulala was preceded in death by her husband Paul Roettger, her parents Chester and Nelle Graham, her sisters; Louise Graham Beanblossom, Hildred Graham Adler, Mildred Graham Willits, Rosemary Graham Likens, Ruth Graham Pritchard, two brothers, Merrill C. Graham and George H. Graham. Also, 3 nieces, Sandra Beanblossom Eley, Dianne Graham, and Carolyn Willets Pickett.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Hersberger-Bozell Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051, with Rev. Barbara Kempf officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to: Trinity United Methodist Church or Madison County Community Foundation for the established fund: Eulala Roettger Scholarship for Future Teachers.
