Eugene “Gene” Clifford Helm, 86, of Plainfield, passed away on November 4, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Gene was born on June 14, 1937 in Ainsworth, Nebraska to the late James Clifford and Hulda Caroline (Boerger) Helm. He married the love of his life, Judy Spink, on August 13, 1967 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Gene graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a bachelor in Mechanical Engineering in 1967. Shortly after graduating college, Gene began working for General Motors as a Mechanical Engineer. He found his spiritual home at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a member for many years. Gene loved flying and even obtained his private pilot license. He enjoyed all things planes, trains, and automobiles. If there was an air show or car show, you know you could look out in the crowd and see Gene in attendance. He loved to eat delicious foods, garden, explore the wonders of genealogy, and go fishing. Most importantly, Gene was dedicated to his wife, family, being a Christian, and making this world a better place. Whether it was lending a helping hand or literally giving the shirt off his back, he was always there to help. This world is a dimmer place without Gene in it.
Gene will be dearly missed by his wife of 56 years, Judy; children, Darrin (Jane) Helm of St. Michael, MN, Kimberly (Brad) Terry of Greenwood, IN, Tiffany Williams of Plainfield, IN, and Brittney (Jacob) Remali of Plainfield, IN; grandchildren, Katie (Scott) Martin of Martinsburg, WV, Ethan (Lindsay) Helm of Provo, UT, Jonathan Helm of St. Michael, MN, Olivia Helm of St. Michael, MN, Rebekah Terry of Greenwood, IN, Hannah Terry of Greenwood, IN, Joshua Terry of Greenwood, IN, Emily Williams of Plainfield, IN, Mikayla Remali of Plainfield, IN, Brock Remali of Plainfield, IN, and Alexia Remali of Plainfield, IN; and great-grandchildren, Elliot and Emma Martin.
