Emory Jay Burke, Jr.

June 3, 1923 — May 18, 2008

Emory Jay Burke, Jr., 84, Noblesville, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2008, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born on June 3, 1923, in Noblesville, Indiana to Emory and Floe (Castor) Burke.
He graduated from Lapel High School in 1942.
Emory retired in 1979 from the former Guide Lamp Division of General Motors in Anderson after over 30 years of employment.
He was a member of Prairie Baptist Church; Pendleton Masonic Lodge No. 44; Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis; Murat Temple Shrine; Madison County Shrine Club; and the Lapel American Legion Post 212.
He is survived by his wife, Frances (Anderson) Burke; one daughter, Lana (husband, Greg) Beaudoin of Cadillac, MI; two step-daughters, Patti (husband, Dave) Woods of Anderson, and Cheryl (husband, Larry) Miller of Middletown; two brothers, Carroll (wife, Barb) Burke of Pendleton, and Lester (wife, Becky) Burke of Lapel; two grandchildren; four step-granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lela Mae (Ridgway) Burke; one son, Thomas J. Burke; three brothers, Kenneth Burke, Vonzel Burke, and Jerry Burke and one sister, Ruth Burke.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Pastor Tom Greenslade officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Memorial Cemetery, Noblesville where the Lapel American Legion Post will conduct military graveside rites.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel and the Pendleton Masonic Lodge will conduct a Masonic memorial service at 8:00 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 1900 Richmond Road, Lexington, Kentucky 40502.
