Emil Baciu, 85, Anderson, passed away Monday, August 19, 2013, at Chase Center in Logansport following a brief illness. He was born on March 1, 1928, in Anderson, Indiana to Alexe and Lena (Cernea) Baciu. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1946 and received an electrical engineering degree from General Motors Institute. Emil was a captain and served as a military aviator for eight years functioning as a forward-air-controller in support of army artillery and air force air-to-ground fighter aircraft. He was a Korean veteran who flew L-15 and T-6 aircraft and he received an air medal with two oak leaf clusters, and a Korean service medal with four bronze service stars. Emil retired from the former Delco Remy division of General Motors in Anderson where he was an engineer. He was a member of the Indianapolis Aero Club; the Grissom Air Museum; the World War II Round Table of Indianapolis; and the Alexandria Eagles. He is survived by two daughters, Pamila Shipley and Renee Porath; two grandsons, Nathanial and Nick Zimmerman; two sisters, Elizabeth Gale of Fishers and Leona Cade of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:30 am Friday, August 23, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel followed by a short service. Burial with military honors will follow in Marion National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Grissom Air Museum, 1000 W Hoosier Blvd Peru, IN 46970.
