Ellen June Bays

INDIANAPOLIS- Ellen June Bays, 89, formally of Anderson, passed away peacefully September 4, 2020. She was born, April 19, 1931, in Kokomo, Indiana, the daughter of the late Frances and Walter Scott Doles. Ellen retired from the Anderson Community School District, after teaching elementary school for over 40 years and was listed in America’ Who’s Who of Teachers. She influenced so many children and families over the years while serving her community. Besides teaching, she enjoying playing the piano and the harp. She also had a passion of taking care of animals. She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Stephen) Burroughs and Jennifer (Jim) Gordy; grandchildren, Jacque (Sam) Whitehead and James “Nathan” Gordy; a sister, Sondra Sahlberg; and several nieces and nephews. A private family service will be held at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Protection League online at www.inapl.org.
