Earl Thomas "Tom" Coverdale, 93, Lapel, passed away Friday, June 16, 2017, at Community Hospital of Anderson following an extended illness.
He was born on March 11, 1924, in Anderson to Earl Franklin and Edna Elvira (Monks) Coverdale Rhody.
Tom was graduated from Anderson High School in 1942 and he had served in the Indiana National Guard.
He retired in 1975 from the former Delco Remy division of General Motors in Anderson.
Tom was the former fire chief in Lapel and he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Chesterfield American Legion Post, the Lapel Masonic Lodge No. 625, the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis and the Murat Temple Shrine.
He is survived by three children, Jane Coverdale of Anderson, Toby (husband, Tim) Thomas of Chesterfield, and Sheila (husband, Michael) Rogers of Chesterfield, a step-son, Buzz (wife, Marcia) Anderson of Anderson; ten grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred; two daughters, Cathy Lynn Bowyer, and Brenda Whetsel; a grandson, Derek; two sisters, Molly Hughes and Phyllis Brizendine.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 19, 2017, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 Main North Street, Lapel with Pastor William Garver officiating. Burial will follow in Bronnenberg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM Monday, June 19, 2017, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 Main North Street, Lapel.
