Dr. Gary Paul Hoffman, 61, of Anderson, passed away September 21, 2023 at Community Hospital in Anderson. Born on August 20, 1962 in Deerfield, Indiana. Gary was the sixth of seven children born to William P and Leah (Whitenack) Hoffman of Deerfield, Indiana. He was a 1980 graduate of Winchester Community High School. He completed his undergrad at Ball State University in 1984. He went on to earn a Doctorate of Chiropractic from Palmer College in Davenport, Iowa in 1988.
He met his wife, Jennifer, in Davenport, Iowa and they married on December 27, 1988. Gary accepted Jennifer’s boys, Jay and Tanner, as his own and moved his new family to Anderson, Indiana to start a life together. Their family grew with sons, Colin and Hunter, and they enjoyed their time together and the simple pleasures of family. He loved all of his boys dearly. He cherished Jennifer, the life they shared for 35 years, and always said how fortunate he was to have her.
He opened Hoffman Chiropractic first in Anderson and later moved to Alexandria and cared for thousands of clients, who over the years became friends. Gary cared for his patients like he did for everyone in his life, with love, compassion and selflessness. He had a gentleness about him, an excellent bedside manner, related well to all kinds of people and never encountered a stranger. He met patients where they were financially and never turned someone in need away without treatment, a kind word or a twenty-dollar bill. He just wanted to help.
Gary was a kid at heart. He never saw a gadget that he didn’t want to buy. He spent a lot of time at auctions and buying things online, and he loved to show and tell. He loved hunting and fishing with his sons and brothers and planting an extensive garden. He had every kind of tomato and pepper you could possibly imagine! Lifelong learner definitely applied to Gary. He read constantly, researched everything and could have worked for Consumer Reports if Chiropractic ever fell through.
Friends and family alike benefitted from his consumerism. Most have a story of going to the mailbox and taking out a random gift from Gary. Things like this and the fact that he never missed an opportunity to tell people how much he loved and appreciated them are why a person always knew where they stood with him.
No matter what you called him: husband, dad, son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, doctor or friend your life was blessed by knowing him.
Gary is survived by his wife, Jennifer Hoffman; four sons, Jay (Hayley) Leibovitz of Ft. Wayne, Tanner (Nikki) Leibovitz of South Bend, Colin Hoffman of Indianapolis and Hunter Hoffman of Indianapolis; two sisters, Sherry Garland and Ruth (Chip) Loney; three brothers Fred (Linda) Hoffman, Steve (Amy) Hoffman and Jim (Shana) Hoffman; and one brother-in-law, John (Michelle) Smith; and many beloved aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and family. He loved all of his family, but was especially proud of his seven grandchildren, Rocko, Joaquin, Rizzo, Jeffrey, Brady, Leah, and Lexi Leibovitz.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Leah Hoffman and his sister, Karen (Hoffman) Smith.
We will miss his generous spirit, his ready smile, and will draw comfort from the sweet memories of the countless ways he loved us and impacted so many lives. This impact extends to his love of others by his legacy as an organ donor.
