Douglas F. Rich, 78, Lapel, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at his home following a three year illness. He was born on January 30, 1935, in Fishersburg, Indiana to Vane and Aileen (Miller) Rich. He graduated from Lapel High School in 1953 and served in the U. S. Army. Doug had worked many years at German and Gallagher CPA firm and then retired in 2002 from American Industrial Corporation. He also worked in Lapel as a public accountant for many businesses and individuals. He was a founding member of the Lapel Optimist Club and had served many years as president of the Lapel Little League. He had served as treasurer of the Brookside Cemetery Association board of directors for many years. Doug was an avid race fan and had attend over 50 Indianapolis 500 races. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Margaret (Sickels) Rich; one son, Kyle (wife, Beth) Rich of Carmel; one grandson, Alex Rich; and a sister, Shirley Foltz of Fishersburg. He was preceded in death by his parents. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Jerry Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, July 19, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Lapel Optimist Club, P. O. Box 812, Lapel, Indiana 46051-0812.
