Dorothy May Buck

Dorothy May (Green) Buck, 88, of Anderson passed away peacefully on August 2, 2015 at St. Vincent/John’s Hospital in Anderson.

She was born May 22, 1927 to the late Mary Ethel (Fuqua) Green and Ulysses S. “Pete” Green in Harvey, IL. She moved to Anderson in 1942 where she attended Anderson High School.

She met and married the love of her life, William W. “Bill” Buck, Jr. on October 28, 1944. Bill and Dorothy were married for 68 years and had five children. Sadly, Bill preceded Dorothy in death.

Dorothy held various jobs throughout the years including, Tom Dearing Drug Store, Montgomery Ward and the most important as a homemaker for her family. Dorothy was active in the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary for several years, where she was in charge of planning Christmas, Easter and Halloween parties for the children of Veterans. Dorothy enjoyed playing bingo.

She is survived by her sister, Lucille Clark Segal of Monticello; daughter, Connie Markwell Ahlers; sons, James W. (Mary) Buck, Robert (Rita) Buck, Steve Buck and Don (Barbara) Buck; grandchildren, Amy Jo (Darryl) Layton, Janet (Eric) Erlandson, Carey Buck, Jamie (Marcus) Johnson, Aaron (Juli) Markwell, Brian Buck, Angie Buck and Justin Buck; step grandchildren, Todd (Christine) Garringer, Mike (Christina) Garringer, Mason Warren; great grandchildren, Megan Sheets, Shelby Erlandson, Corbin Smith, Shad (Dani) Markwell, Karly (Daniel) Erlandson Stephenson, Tory Markwell, Devon Buck, Kevin Oliver, Morgan and Madisen Johnson, Paul Johnson, Zane Layton, Cyndie Layton and Raylee Buck; step great grandchildren, Patrick and Isaac Garringer and Mackenzie and MacKade; great great grandchildren, Maycee VanMatre, Tyler Markwell and Tera Beth Stephenson; brother-in-law, Artie “Dutch” Buck and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters and brother, Judy Wallace, Woodrow Wallace and Mary Evelyn Rice; daughter-in-law, Joyce Buck; son-in-laws, David Markwell and Thomas Ahlers; special niece, Janice Slusher; father and mother-in-law, William W. Sr. and Hattie Buck along with several brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5th at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory with Pastor Clifton Ashlock of Memorial Wesleyan Church officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

A dinner to honor Dorothy’s memory will be held immediately after the burial at Memorial Circle Wesleyan Church.

The family wishes to thank St. Vincent/John’s Hospice, Dr. Rachel Robinson, Dr. Mark Jennings and the nurses on the 6th floor who took such good care of her.
