Dorothy J. Dayton, 84, of Anderson passed away October 5, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis after a brief illness.

She was born April 30, 1930, in Anderson, the daughter of James A. and Georgia J. (Wilson) Wood, Jr. and has been a life long Anderson resident.

She had worked as a manager in several restaurants and was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by her children, Dixie (husband, Brodie) Cox of Winslow, IN, John (wife, Patricia) Modlin of Anderson, Georgia (husband, Darrell) Davidson of Cape Coral, FL, Kathy Modlin (partner, Bonnie Sloan) of Anderson, Daniel A. Dayton of Anderson, Jeffrey Modlin of Anderson, Tarrell (wife, Victoria) Dayton of Indianapolis, Debbie (husband, Richard) Arnold of Anderson and Danene (husband, Donnie) Eckelbarger of Anderson; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband, William Daniel Dayton, Sr. son, Bill Dayton, Jr. daughters, Dana Sue Dayton, Jama Sue Modlin, Cathy Eckelbarger and Diana Garrett, grandchildren, Jeffery Chambers and Heather Arnold, brother, Donald Wood and sister, Bertha Wood.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory with Rev. Alvin Dayton officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Walk Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
