Dorcas Faye Carey, 94, of Lapel, passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Rawlins House in Pendleton following an extended illness.
She was born on November 16, 1929, in Fishersburg, Indiana to Albert Jackson and Jessie Lavina (Anderson) Wiseman.
She was 1948 graduate of Lapel High School.
She had worked for Bolden's Dry Cleaning and had been a cook at Hamilton Heights Junior High School. She retired in 1996.
She attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel. She loved to bake, especially pies. She loved watching sports, including IU and the Pacers. She loved to spend time with her family. She especially loved spending time with her grandkids and attending their sporting and music events.
Dorcas is survived by two sons, Luckie (wife, Denise) Carey of Westfield and Ron (wife, Pam) Carey of Pendleton; a daughter-in-law, June Carey of Alexandria nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Dickie Carey; her parents; a sister, Emma E. Smith; four brothers, Orville Jackson Wiseman, Charles Albert Wiseman, Jesse Anderson Wiseman and Harlan Wiseman; a daughter-in-law, Debbie (Moore) Carey; and a grandson, Jackie Carey.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Bozell Funeral Home, Lapel Chapel, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051 with Rev. Gary Cable officiating. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Lapel.
Visitation will be from 11:00 Am to 1:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
