Donovan Ray Hunt, of Knightstown, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 13, 2018. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday September 20th, with Masonic Services at 7:45 p.m. conducted by Eden Masonic Lodge #477 F. & A.M. at Condo & St Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory in Wilkinson, Indiana. Services will be at 11 a.m. September 21, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield, Indiana. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Curry’s Chapel UMC, Eastern Hancock High School Athletic Boosters or Troop 293, Boy Scouts of America, Charlottesville, Indiana. Contributions may be left in care of the funeral home. Don was born 9 March 1938 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Donald Loren Hunt and Helen Ruth Pope Hunt. He was raised and educated in rural Hancock County and Maxwell, Indiana where he graduated in the first class from Hancock Central High School in 1956. He served in the U.S. Air Force after graduation and completed his basic training at Parks AFB in Oakland, California. He attended technical school for weather observation at Chanute AFB, Rantoul, Illinois. After training he was stationed at Ellington AFB in Houston, Texas. Don was honorably discharged in 1960. He returned to Indiana where he resumed farming in Hancock County. He also worked at Greenfield Beverage and then owned and operated The Wagon Wheel Liquor Store (Pink Elephant) in Fortville, Indiana retiring in 2007. Don married Roberta Ann Grist in 1965 in Greenfield, Indiana. They lived on his farm until 1974 when they moved to a farm near Knightstown, Indiana. They were blessed with three sons and now have nine grandchildren. The Hunt’s celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family and friends in 2015. He was a longtime member of Curry’s Chapel UMC. He, along with his two brothers, joined Eden Lodge No. 477 F.& A.M. in Eden, Indiana where he was a 49 year member. He was a member of Santa Gertrudis Breeders International since 1997 & owned/bred the 2006-2007 National Champion Bull, Hunt’s DHF Hoosier Daddy 74/3. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Larry B. Hunt; and daughter-in-law, Gail Loadman Hunt. His family includes his wife of 53 years, Roberta, of Knightstown, his children, Eric Hunt of Winfield, Kansas, Chris and Shawna White Hunt of Greenfield, Indiana, and Ty and Lea Ann Richardson Hunt of Wilkinson, Indiana. Grandchildren, Noah, Isabella, and Abigale of Winfield; Owen, Colby and Liliann of Greenfield; and Sy, Josie, and Matt of Wilkinson; sister, Betty Sue Hunt (Earl) Haywood , and brother, Philip (Sharon Cole) Hunt , all of Greenfield, and his numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who felt blessed by his family and friends. He could always talk about farming and never met a stranger. He was an honest man and hard worker who loved to watch his sons and grandchildren play various sports. His three sons and two grandsons are Eagle Scouts and he made sure to let people he talked to how proud he was of them. Don will be well-remembered and respected and deeply missed.
