Donald “Don” G. Gwaltney, 84, was invited home by his Lord on Monday, May 18, 2020. The love for his wife and the faith in his Lord eased the long battle he faced. He was born May 26, 1935 in Anderson to the late Prince and Thelma (Neese) Gwaltney. Don graduated from Anderson High School in 1953. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having been stationed in Washington. He retired from Delco-Remy in 1988, after 34 years. He was a member of Southdale Nazarene Church. Don was past Madison County Pool Champ and a proud member of the Meadowbrook Mafia. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Virginia (Gillespie); sons, Steve (wife, Vickie) Owens, Scott (wife, Sibylle) Owens, and Kirk (wife, Cindy) Owens; sister, Ellen Bales; brother, James “Jim” (wife, Laura Lee) Gwaltney; sister-in-law, Vivian Gwaltney; grandchildren, Edie Peña, Ariel Peña, Isabelle Peña-Vera, Donald King, Stephanie George, Shayne, Stany, Samuel, & Steffen Owens, Craig Owens, & Kinsey Jachim; and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie King; brothers, William “Bill” Gwaltney & David Gwaltney; and sister, Marilyn McKelvey. Private services were entrusted to Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory. Burial will be at East Maplewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Southdale Nazarene Church.
