Dessie Mirlene Kirby, 66, Frankton, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2005, at her daughter's home in Frankton.
She was born on August 13, 1938, in Jonesboro, Arkansas to Chester and Mary (Riggins) Hickman.
She had been a cook in several restaurants in the area including the Omni, and Wheelers and she once owned the Highway Cafe (or Airport Cafe) in Elwood. She had spent the last eight years enjoying her grandchildren She attended the Lone Oak Wesleyan Church and she was committed to giving to help feed people locally and abroad. She was a very loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by three children, Robert Jannings of Lapel, Pamela R. (husband, Charles "Ed") Moore of Frankton, and Scott H. Johnson of Farmland; one brother, Ernest Ray Hickman of Noblesville; two sisters, Carma Dorah of Bristol, and Jo Ann Smith of California; nine grandchildren, Billy (wife, Christy) Jannings, Melissa Jannings (fiance, John Miller), Austin Jannings, Lindsey Jannings, Christy Rene Cobb (fiance, Bill Burton), Chuck Moore (fiance, Jessica Benefield), Haley (husband, Jeremy) Morrison Morrison, Sarah Ann Johnson, and Selena J. Johnson; and five great grandchildren, Collin Ray Jannings, Leigha R. Cobb, Jailyn Bugby, Allison Morrison, and Dominick Morrison. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Kirby in 1997; and by her parents. A memorial services will be held at 6:00 PM Monday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. William Abresch officiating. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
