Delcie Pauline Heiny, 87, Lapel, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Hooverwood Nursing Home in Indianapolis following a period of declining health. She was born on November 26, 1925, in Overton County, Tennessee to Edward and Verdie (Spicer) Smith. Pauline retired from Riverview Hospital where she had worked as a nurses aid for several years. She was a very active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel. Pauline was a devoted wife and mother. She was a wonderful cook and an accomplished seamstress and was fond of flower gardening especially orchids, roses, and African violets. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lawrence Heiny; five daughters, Diana Stafford of Fortville, Sharon Yoder of Indianapolis, Cathy Heiny of Indianapolis, Janet Van der Veer of Fairfax, VA, and Lynnette Heiny of Albuquerque, NM; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Bill, Loyd, Dustin, and J. B. Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Veachel Smith; and four sisters, Ruby, Jewel, Lola, and Alma. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Pastor Dawn Cuthbert officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Rachel Circle of Trinity United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 606, Lapel, Indiana 46051-0606.
