Deborah Layne Holdzkom

Deborah Layne Holdzkom, 60, Lapel, passed away at her home, Wednesday, November 26, 2014, following a brief illness. She was born on August 8, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois to James and Judith (Krajefska) Walker. She graduated from Crown Point High School in 1972 and received a bachelor's degree from I. U. Kokomo. Deborah retired as a third grade teacher from Anderson Community Schools in 2014. She was a natural teacher and exhibited that in many areas of her life, teaching her children, classes at church and school as well as those she met. She was a member of the Ford Street United Methodist Church in Lapel; was a part of the Epworth Forest Choir School; a member of the Anderson Federation of Teachers; she enjoyed volunteering at the Lapel Food Pantry; she also was well known for her historical reinactment of Mary Todd Lincoln. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Pastor Stephen Holdzkom; two children, Rebecca (husband, Kenny) Day of Greensburg and Matthew Holdzkom of Louisville; one grandson, Byron Day; her father, James Walker of Iuka, MS; one brother, James Walker, Jr. of Houston, TX; and one sister, Michelle Johnson of Iuka, MS. She was preceded in death by her mother; and a brother, John Walker. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, December 1, 2014, at New Horizons United Methodist Church in Anderson with Pastors Gina Kirkland, Michelle Cobb, Craig LaSuer, Al Kundenreich, and David Michel officiating. Private family burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery, Muncie. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to The Lapel Food Pantry or the Ford Street Building Fund, P. O. Box 626, Lapel, Indiana 46051-0626.
