Dean K. Arnold

Dean K Arnold, 76, Pendleton, IN passed away unexpectedly on November 11, 2013. He was born in Petroleum, IN to his parents, the late Harold and Mary Arnold of Bluffton. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jane; daughter, Angela Warford (Mark) of Clarksville, IN; son, Tim Arnold (Stacy) of Indianapolis, IN; daughter, Debbie Arnold of Louisville KY; granddaughter Starla Roe; and grandsons Kenny, Matt, and Luke Arnold, as well as dear family friend, Peggy Sutton. In addition, he is survived by his brother Richard Arnold (Diane), nephew Brad, and nieces Julie and Amy, all of Fort Wayne, IN. He was also preceded in death by his cherished dog, Aussie. Dean was proud of his long career in the field of Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) and health care development and management, from concept to ongoing operation. He had a comprehensive understanding of marketing strategies in health care and extensive experience in restructuring operations to improve efficiency and to achieve optimum performance and budgetary balance. He was Project Director/Administrator at Baptist Homes and Hospitals, Inc., Indianapolis, IN (1969-76); Presbyterian Housing Program, Indianapolis, IN (1976-80); and Co-operative Retirement Services of America, Monarch Management Division, Memphis, TN (1980-85). From 1985-86, he was Monarch Management Division's Vice President of Operations, Northeast Region. During this period, he also was affiliated with Medical Facilities/Amedco of St. Louis, MO and assisted with their facility in Omaha, NE. From 1986 - 1997, he was Senior Administrator of the Indiana Masonic Home, Franklin, IN. From 1997-1999, he returned to Westminster Village Kentuckiana, Clarksville, IN as Administrator of the facility he had previously helped develop and open. From 1999-2004, he was Administrator of Longworth Villa, Charlestown, IN, a facility dating back to 1907 with emphasis on unusual behavior and acute post substance deterioration. In 2002, he led transition of Longworth Villa residents and staff to Hillcrest Centre for Health and Rehabilitation, Jeffersonville, IN, a health care facility with emphasis on special needs and rehabilitation. This extensive career included administrative affiliations with the following retirement facilities: Hoosier Village, Zionsville, IN; The Four Seasons, Columbus, IN; The Town House, Fort Wayne, IN; Tudor Village, Elkhart, IN; Westside Christian Village (now known as Westside Retirement Village), Indianapolis, IN; and Treyton Oak Towers, Louisville, KY. Other accomplishments and credentials included: Certified Retirement Housing Professional Fellow (RHPF), 1991, by American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, Washington, DC (first Indiana Administrator to be certified); Certified Evaluator, Continuing Care Accreditation Commission, Washington, DC; Certified as Preceptor by Indiana State Board of Registration and Education for Health Facility Administrators in conjunction with the National Association of Boards of Administrators-in-Training Preceptor Certification. In 1985, he was commissioned Honorary Kentucky Colonel, by the Governor of Kentucky, for work in the development of Treyton Oak Towers. In 1989, he received the Certificate of Meritorious Service, Grand Lodge Free & Accepted Masons, State of Indiana. In 1991, he was awarded Honorary Thirty-Third And Last Degree from the Indianapolis Valley, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry for the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction of the U.S. of America, Lexington, MA. Dean attended DePauw University & Ball State University, majoring in Business Administration and Psychology, with specialized study in Gerontology and Health Facility Administration. Affiliations included: Kiwanis International; American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging; Indiana Association of Homes for the Aging; Community Human Resources Planning Council; Founded - Elkhart County Council on Aging; Indiana State Board of Health Long-Term Care Advisory and Review Committee; Board Member - United Way; and Partnership for a Healthier Johnson County. Dean felt most proud and privileged to be a husband and father. He treasured spending time with his family, who loved him dearly. His hobbies included working in the yard and listening to jazz, gospel, and classical music. Dean had an extraordinary voice and was frequently invited to sing at special events in his younger years. His keen interests included automobiles, world news, and current events. An informal celebration of Dean's life will be held on Sunday, November 17 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at The Station, 1020 Main Street, Lapel, IN 46051.
